Okay, I whipped up a really rough draft of the rules.

Okay, I whipped up a really rough draft of the rules. It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to externalize the mechanics of the game, and I’m too impatient at this point to make sure every playbook has 5 items written.

  1. As a consequentialist, I’m slightly offended. As a roleplayer, I’m delighted. Highlights:

the game seem to be darker now, and it was pretty dark before.

“When there’s a question of who can talk louder, it’s you.” oh god XD

    * the hitch special XP rules are brilliant. (though I think the playbook might be more complicated then before). “At the beginning of the session, if nobody could address [your special complaints] because it was unreasonable and stupid, just like you, you mark XP. Put the XP wherever.” that amazing. the weird incentive system here is bizarre and well thought.

“How often is the customer right?” XD

*I’ll miss the name “crit of great and terrible power”

*the dark dice concept is really interesting

*the Trust rules fit your hack perfectly

    the Transmission playbook is amazing.

*the Abuse dynamic seem like a notch too far – harm is seriously time consuming to take care of, and it don’t seem fun to use a lot of you downtime to deal with other players’ Abuse. Maybe if you automatically get XP for it (like with the Tool advance) it would be better, but right now I don’t know if I want this kind of incentive inone of my games. Did you tried Abuse in playtest? it worked well?

the current version is indeed rough, but it’s fool of interesting mechanics and lore bits. I kind of feel like the emotional mindfuckery is a bit too much for me in this version in a way that house renovation was not (I felt like the humour was a stronger theme back then), but it might just be the rough edges of the draft being sharp, or that you decided to make the “you play a shitty person” theme more prominent, which is a legit design choice.

Anyhow, I’ll stay psychic tune to your next secret broadcast. Glad your game is back 🙂

  2. Roe Portal Yeah, I’ve done a little squinting at the abuse mechanic before too. It almost feels too straightforward or it doesn’t come with drawbacks or something. Maybe the harm thing isn’t so bad cause recovery’s a 4-clock now, and forgiving your abuser gives you an extra healing clock tick anyway (EEEK!) But yeah it doesn’t feel QUITE right. The answer might be as simple as deleting the text for the Abuse move. I’ll look into that.

The emotion I’m trying to achieve with this game right now is, “really scary roller coaster with pieces of track missing”. Because that’s been my favorite parts of playtesting this game, where as a GM I’m shrieking and giggling in terror because my players just GAVE THE CANDY SUPPLIER FROM THE DARK WEB THE ADDRESS TO THEIR HOUSE AHHHHHH NOOOOO!

Pure doom on its own is kind of a flat note. 🙂

  3. Yeah, I remember the “let’s connect the freak to the grid” part of our short playtest. There is a diabolical charm to those moments. That what I like with the Hitch XP trigger – you have to make everyone do crazy stupid stuff.

Oh, and also – the reality TV questions from elderic abominations look terrific, in the “viewers might actually be c’thulu” “cubin in the wood”-style kind of way.

  4. Current Abuse rule finagling: abuse might take many forms, so I’ve changed it to “you clear stress based on the effect level” instead of “based on the level of harm” Also, if you take someone’s abuse without resisting, you get to bank a dark die for later.

Going back to abuse taking many forms, the cult leader-type of the group might start a progress clock to sever a teammates ties to their family by anonymously publishing a false PI’s report about how they blew a large loan from their parents on gambling, drugs, and penny stocks. They should get tasty stress relief for THAT. THAT’S AWESOME AND HORRIFYING. But it ain’t harm. So I changed the rule to include cases like the above situation. Cause that’s also mega-abuse.

  5. that… DARK. nicely done. I suggest to also tie it in the Trust rules –

“when you force someone else to suffer the consequences of your actions for you, clear one stress. If they end up suffering harm, clear stress equal to the harm level they suffer instead.”

    and maybe-

“When someone you Trust force you to suffer consequences fot them, if you don’t resist any of them, bank a dark die”

  6. As a person who’s just read this document, I am both horrified and intrigued. Horrified because of the confessionals, kindness causing ire and abuse based stress relief. Intrigued because of the confessionals, bizarre weirdness, and meta aspect. Is there any place where I can see a streaming or recording of this game? (or I guess playtest, in it’s current state)
