No matter what I try to come up with, I just can’t seem to out creepy Oskarr Scurlock. Well done, Stras. Your waifish boy has left shoes that are large indeed for other Whispers to try to fit into.

  1. Carriless Firm is unsettling in that, like all of Geoff’s characters, he is evil just for the sake of being evil. Oskarr is just plain, skincrawling, unnerving, soulshriveling weird. And I love it.

  2. Etrius MacGuffin hah, yes! Agreed, I play with Stras Acimovic and call him a friend, and I still don’t understand what goes on inside that brain of Oskarr’s!

  3. Thanks for the kind words Jordan.

Most folks that play Whispers tend to at their fundamental core play people trying to control something unknowable and to an extent uncontrollable. The only tip I have is that to play Oskarr I try to play something that is at its fundamental core unknowable/uncontrollable trying to figure out how to play people.

I’m not sure if that helps. Also I hear rumors there may be more Bloodletters here soon ^_~

  4. Also – I absolutely adore Arcy as a char, and Sean’s portrayal of someone passionate and self-destructive. And I know Cantor is popular with his silly coats, many collars and out-of-touch with reality binges and murderous streaks.

Oskarr is quiet and creepy, and I’m never sure if I’m connecting with the audience or if I need to ham it up more. So – glad to hear he’s got fans even if he’s not the most colorful of the trio. ^_^

  5. Stras Acimovic Absolutely happy to and very well deserved. I appreciate the advice! Maybe I can wrap my head around that and approach the beauty that is Oskarr!

The full book AND news of more Bloodletters in one day? I may swoon!

  6. Arcy and Canter may have bigger personalities but Oskcarr carries the biggest bat. And I don’t even mean that about creep whisper shit. When Strangford didn’t budge Arcy wanted to negotiate, Oskcarr just shot the fucker (or tried to). And with the gun Arcy gave him even!

Just to say that I’m not sure how the audience reads him/you Stras, but I fucking love gaming with you.

  7. Stras Acimovic Sean Nittner I have to say I really love all the characters. Arcy and Canter are excellent foils to one another, with Canter being very fiery and frequently unpredictable, and Arcy being more down-to-earth and pragmatically goal-oriented, while both manage to show the very human darkness of the world. I don’t know if you guys intended it or not, but media is full of that very warrior duo; Samurai Champloo comes up as an example off the top of my head. Arcy’s goals have changed over time, particularly recently, and we’ve had some revelations from Canter as well, but the core duality of it remains I think.

Oskarr helps bring out the supernatural aspects of the game, bringing the creepiness and inhuman aspects of the darkness of the world. Oskarr’s personal revelation of how the path of the Whisper is that of cutting off the human parts of your Self and replacing them with things that aren’t quite human was particularly breathtaking to me as a listener. He’s definitely got a fan club. 😀

I love the characters and the game with a passion that genuinely surprises me. Part of that comes from the passion you guys clearly have as players, because you guys are clearly as in love with the world and game and characters as I am, and part of it comes from your willingness to completely embrace the narrative power on the part of the players that Blades (very uniquely I think) gives you. I’m enjoying the Rollplay game as well, but aside from maybe Geoff I don’t have the feeling that they really understand the power Blades gives the player to help write the story and the world, while you guys have so clearly and absolutely embraced it, and I absolutely think that’s where a large amount of the beauty of the Bloodletters game comes from.
