My Mindjammer (FATE rpg) game is currently on hiatus and I was thinking of convincing my group to just straight up move to your setting when we get back to playing 🙂

One question though if that’s ok. In Mindjammer players can play as the AI for a sentient ship. In the finished hack, will there be the option to play as a ship AI? Can you technically just use the xeno background and say the pilot playbook?

  1. Yeah this is how it works in Mindjammer. You have the Ship (Andromeda) and the ship’s avatar (Rommie). It’s worked well so far and I know the player would be upset to not play the same character.

  2. Thanks for your kind words!!!

So I tried making the game as flexible and as open-ended as I could ^_~ I think your solution is excellent! Just snag the Pilot book. If the “body” (Rommie) for the ship is about human standard, you don’t even need to take Xeno really, but if you want to play up that it’s extra strong, or doesn’t need to breathe and can exist in vacuum or something – then yeah Xeno pilot makes sense. That sounds great!

We weren’t really planning on making an AI-core/Urbot playbook, but folks keep coming up with these amazing ideas. I love your “my pilot is the ship AI” scenario. In my home game my scoundrel stole an Urbot named Utu from the system governor, and he’s our ship’s Mystic right now (his precursor artifact is his heart – which is wreathed in blue fire).

There will be some drone/AI rules in a bit (it’s on our docket to get done, but we wanted to release a playable set to backers as soon as we could) – but I don’t know if there will be an AI-Core/Urbot playbooks specifically (adam’s right if it does happen it’ll probably be a hack of the Hull). But we’ll see ^_~ We’re planning to support this for a while.
