S&V added the action “Doctor” which includes doctoring someone who is hurt. In the Stitch’s special abilities it gives some specific examples, but for everyone else how does doctoring interact mechanically with harm, especially during a score (i.e. not as a recover action during downtime)?

Or can you only use the doctor action to help heal people during downtime, and the rest of the time the action is used for the other things in the description?

Hoping to run this supplement in the next week or two, and that seems like an important mechanic to understand.

  1. Cass – in terms of “healing” it acts during the downtime recovery action (which most playtesters of mine seemed to think was a worthwhile investment even if they weren’t stitches – note that for genre reasons the recovery clocks are much shorter, and the recovery action simplified). And can be used with the Stitch power Patch to remove penalties in the field (but you already noted that ^_~).

As a skill though you can use it for a number of things (trying to save someone who’s been badly wounded, sciencing the shit out of a wierd substance you’ve found, or connecting to people on an emotional level – either to read them, or to just comfort them). Take a gander at the Actions section.

Let me know if you have any more Qs! Looking forward to hearing about your adventures with it.

  2. Here is another one – can you explain why the ship’ crew need to choose upgrades, spacial ability, extra system parts, quality or systems quality, while in blades they choose upgraded and ability, and the quality is measured on a different track?

It will make crew progression much slower, right? What was the rational for it?

  3. Roe Portal: It shouldn’t. If you take a look at core blades, there’s roughly the same set of advances (we counted). You can buy ship engine quality (S&V) or you can buy Gang or expert quality (Core blades). And the number of upgrade spends remains roughly the same if you look at the gang advancement spends.

However in S&V there’s a few differences you’re not noting in your argument. For one – ship XP for the Stardancer is one less so you ‘levelup faster’. And unlike in core blades, there’s a base-game mechanic for buying ship parts, which can provide an alternate path to some upgrades. In Space Opera keeping your ship running, and having a unique and adventure worthy vessel is a much bigger deal.

Honestly we’ve actually found progression faster in playtests, but let me know if you find out otherwise for some reason in your games ^_^

Stefan Struck go check the latest KS update, it’s there.

  4. Say Stras, it looks like a group of mischievous players can just opt to never Lay Low and instead bolt the system when things gets too hot.

So, first, it’s awesome, but do you plan on creating “intergalactic heat” scale for the super wanted?

  5. Toby and Ben you folks are ON POINT as to why we did it this way ^_~ So much <3 for you guys getting our references.

So Roe Portal yes. You could totally do that. I have several GMs that asked me for blank System sheets specifically so they could make their own if players kept running (it should be included in the folder). To be frank this is akin to being wanted 4 and skipping out on Doskvol (if your group is cool writing up Tycheros, and moving your game there – hey awesome!)

The Procyon Sector is 4 systems. I’m expecting most people to bounce between those. If you go towards the heart of the Hegemony, the law becomes stronger, and they tolerate misbehavior less – so it’s less likely that you’ll get away with stuff, but I have no statements to add once you leave the Rin system. Folks can write that stuff however they like, and try to keep on flyin’ ^_~

If your crew and GM are cool with it, I as the designer won’t stop you, and would just like to hear about your escapades.

  6. 99% of the credit goes to Tim for his amazing base sheet. 🙂

And I just realized I need to change the roll templates, just fixed those. Will keep editing throughout the weekend.
