It protects you from a particular kind of danger. Instead of taking the consequences of something, you can just tick off your special armour.

I’m in my phone right now, so I’m afraid I can’t check. I’m also basing that knowledge on something like four versions ago though, so it’s quite possible I’m wrong.

also, armor reduces or avoids the consequences to which it applies
Armor is a “get out of jail” free card for one particular harm. Special Armor is a “get out of jail” free card specific to a situation.
