How does the engagement roll work when you have linked plans (either a setup manoeuvre or a diversion that’s it’s own plan)?
Should a Bad Outcome be applied to:
a) the setup manoeuvre/diversion plan only
b) both the setup/diversion and the characters waiting to enact the main plan, or
c) divvied out to either or both depending on circumstances and dramatic judgement?
Or should there be two engagement rolls, one for each plan?
My understand was, that there are two plans linked. Therefor two engangement rolls, too. One for each plan. If the first went well, the outcome will alter the second one. That makes it simple to create a specific bad/good outcome for each of the plans.
I would agree with Stefan Struck , Engagement rolls should be made in order to better determine the actions of each plan to better reflect individual impacts on the overall operation.
Two plans, two engagement rolls.
If it’s just a setup maneuver, it might affect the dice for the engagement roll.
Huh. That doesn’t marry well with the trigger for the engagement roll:
“To determine the starting situation for the score, make an engagement roll.”
I read this as the roll was shooting at the level of the score, conceivably establishing the situation that each linked plan is placed within. If it’s meant to be rolled for each plan, well then I reckon the trigger needs some rewording, like swapping “score” for “plan”.
Yeah.
I’d judge if it’s one or two engagement rolls for the linked plan depending on fictionally appropriate it is. Like, if we’ve decided that two plans is the way to go and they’re pretty linked to the point the first one is practically entirely setup for the next one, then I’d probably just use the results of the first plan as the engagement roll. If they’re like two plans running at two different factions or enemies there’s a good chance I’ll do two rolls.
Then again, thinking about it some more, maybe you should just do two rolls regardless, but rather than treat the second engagement roll as the first plan, just incorporate relevant factors into the second.
