With character items, are the assumed to carry all items associated with their playbook and the items on the right sidebar are counted for character load?

  1. All items are counted for load unless in italics. Unless there’s a story reason that having italicized items would be bad, it’s probably safe to assume you always have the items in italics(correct me if I’m wrong, guys).

  2. You choose a load at the start of the score and determine which items you are carrying as they come up during play. The items can be from your playbook items or the standard items.

  3. The answers here don’t really seem to be clearly answering the question.

Here is how gear and load work:

When you start a score, you choose a load. This determines how much stuff you have with you, but you don’t determine any specific stuff at this point.

When a player needs an item, they mark it on their character sheet by checking the box to say “Yeah, I brought this thing along.” They can only do this up to their load.

The implication is that the characters made a cunning plan and knew what they were going to need, even though the players don’t.

  4. I’m not sure what you mean by “playbook items”? The ones in the grey area that vary by playbook? They’re all still under the “Load” header, so they work just like everything else – it counts against Load unless it’s in italics.  The only difference between those items and the others is that they vary playbook.
