I’ve probably just missed it in the document, but when it comes to a new fame which playbooks do people do first?

Characters then Crew?

Crew then Characters?

I can see advantages of doing it either way.

  1. Do character playbooks first. Maybe don’t even use the crew book. If you plan to make this a long play, probably do both in the most natural order (go off of where the conversation goes first)

That being said: I don’t bother with the crew mechanics in the first session beyond the basics: faction ties, one shared ability to get them started, a lair description, and the NPCs as needed. At least, until end of game when they can describe their reputation, earn crew XP,. etc – and even then, only if there is a second session to come.

  2. I think doing the crew creation first can be really good for getting everyone on the same page. I did half of crew, then made some character then finished up the crew creation with the factions to seed the starting scene.

  3. Yeah I am torn.

Characters first feels more informed by the fiction, a natural progression of ‘you are these people. You get together, what gang do you form?’

On the other hand, choosing and designing the crew first feels like it will create a better group dynamic and shape the tone for players to buy into.
