Hey, i’m planning to run Blades in the Dark on a forum. Couple of questions

1) Any tips for making forum play more enjoyable?

2) Is BitD particularly well suited for this style of play?

3) I’m pretty new to this, so any general tips?

4) Has anybody got any little jpegs or such of Clocks with various amount of sectors filled so I can post these in the thread, preferably with different colours to differentiate.

Thanks,

Dom

  1. 1. I like pbpmap.com for forum play; its built-in, nearly-cheat-proof dice roller functions are nice, and its HTML mapper is a perfect blend of utility to complication (it just uses layers of a bunch of tiny images, which load super quick in the browser). I would also point out that dice rollers like invisiblecastle.com are out there too (like if you want to play a game that is purely theater-of-the-mind, for example).

    2. One of the primary strengths of Blades is its conversational nature, the Back and Forth. Forum play somewhat inhibits this. That being said, it’s lack of a rigid turn structure definitely lends itself to forum play better than some games.

    3. Thoroughly vet your players; internet is prone to flakery. Be upfront about your policies concerning desired posting frequency. Play in forums tends to be slow unless everyone is on at the same time (& you might consider working out a block of time with your players for more “back and forth” block of posting).
