I noticed this as well. The answer lies page 29, under Doskvol Notables. Nyryx is a rogue spirit that possesses streetwalkers. This actually came up OOC in our game, because our Whisper has Nyryx as a friend, and our Slide has them as a rival (though they don’t yet know IC that the other also knows Nyryx at all, so it’ll be interesting when that does come to a head). Basically there’s a lot more going on with Nyryx than either of them realize.

I wish the playbooks had slightly more overlap in the friends/rivals lists as this can lead to PC/NPC/PC triangles.
I don’t know, I kind of like how it is. It adds some uniqueness to the different Playbooks, and I think that’s important.
You could always do a Fiasco-style index card relationship round for the group. Or randomly determine some to be fleshed out (Epoch has some cards to that effect)
John, what made you decide to have pre-chosen contacts for each playbook? With as customizable as Blades is, why would every Slide (for example) know the same people? That’s not a nitpick, more a question about design reasoning.
My guess is that it’s easier to cross out and replace a name that was already used than come up with six new names every time.
Now I’m wondering if the initial faction status could be playbook driven. Each player would pick +1/-1 status with two factions listed on their playbook, and then the group could pick the Tier 3 faction status from those listed on the crew playbook. This would reduce the “decision space” so that each player isn’t analyzing like 35 factions to pick just a couple.
