  1. I’m trying to make it so I can edit the Hawkers crew sheet shared in the example game to make it usable.  It’s hard.  It involves identifying and finding fonts.  Then, when I get the fonts (or replace one with something very similar, I’m not sure which mentor font is used), I’ll have to work on finding or replacing the diamonds and other symbols and what not.

John Harper , somewhere you said that formatting is an art.  It really is.  I’m enjoying reverse engineering your formatting.  Would you prefer me not to share what I end up with or would that be okay?  You wouldn’t want to share what fonts are used, would you?  Diamonds and triangles and rectangles and such?  Thanks again for the game.  I’m looking forward to an online game of it tomorrow.  I had a good time running Lady Blackbird on the weekend as well.  🙂

  2. Argh, none of the Mentor SC fonts on fontsgeek.com are doing the trick.  I’ll probably have to use the one that seems closest and change the fonts manually.  Hopefully the Garamond font will work out, but if not, I can at least get close to it.

  3. The symbols are all from Wingdings (1, 2, and 3) I believe.

It’s okay to share the Hawkers sheet. If you want, I can save you the trouble and post the PDF for it. Unless you’re enjoying the process of doing it yourself.

  4. Thanks for the tip about Wingdings!  I am enjoying the process quite a bit.  A few days ago I would have felt selfish to ask you to share it.  Now I’m feeling like I might selfishly like to have a day or so more to try to finish it before you do share it.  Of course, the community would prefer your official sheet.  I’m also just looking forward to being able to make gorgeous official looking hacks.  I haven’t thought at all about mechanics (just the formatting), but street performers sound fun to try to make a hack of.  Maybe fighting schools too?  Pirates?  I think the single sheet I’m most looking forward to seeing is the Spider.

One thing I found interesting about your formatting is that there is no sans serif.  Instead of the normal serif to sans serif contrast you seem to be going with a normal to all caps (or SC?  I gather?) contrast.  It works well.

  5. Yeah, I’m sorry.  I kind of highjacked that.  Those are nice.  And just think, now you can use them to make anything else you might like, or make the Hawkers sheet, or, or, or.  Thanks for sharing them NeuralNoise JDR  🙂

  6. Excellent NeuralNoise JDR! Extremely handy.

I notice that the VIce lists (and the crew reputation/associate-style lists) may need to be split into separate cells in order to highlight just one of the words, since you have to format an entire cell’s contents together in Google Sheets.

  7. To me, the Blades Char sheet is one of the most beautiful I’ve known. So, quite a challenge to “top” that!

Have you guys noticed how the graphic effect of “blade cutting” is continued on the sheet?

Reverse engineering artful (game) designers is a very useful exercise and I can highly recommend it. You’ll see how much attention goes into a lot of details you didn’t even think of like i.e. character spacing, balancing of white spaces etc.

  8. Nice again and swift NeuralNoise JDR!

On my same link above, the Cult and Hawkers sheets are now showing in case anyone wants to duplicate them.

Also, looks like your roster of Rooks, Shadows, and Rovers lost their headings and all names but one.

  9. Swift, a bad habit that make mistake 😀 The names are returned. You’re welcome Adam Minnie and thx for you hawk eye 😉

I missed your link, that’s a great job. I add it to my documents!

  10. Adam Minnie , if you hack a new crew or character and want to make it look purdier, I’d be happy to help with making it almost like the official ones.  🙂

  11. Yes hari capra! Awesome. I was actually resisting saying exactly that on the thread where you were talking about the files for the Hawker sheet. 😛

I have a ideas spilling down on various note-filled gdocs, but I’m feeling hesitant since I don’t want to overlap with any eventual stretch goals and re-skins, and we only have the quick start so far. Therefore if any, I’m leaning more toward hacks, crews, and characters for more licensed IPs such as Eberron, Borderlands, One Piece, Shadowrun, etc.

  12. Adam Minnie , I’m happy to hear you say that as I’m concerned about the same things.  I think it would be important to put something on it that says “fan made hack” real loud and clear.  It’s also tricky in that we don’t want to make something similar to something that will be released officially, like you said.  I’ve seen things not get released officially because they were hacked by fans first, unfortunately.  I think informing John Harper about possible hacks before putting them out there would be good too.  Also, very important, play testing stuff first.  It would probably be good to wait for guidelines on hacking as well.  One question I had about hacking was about special ability overlap.  Some of those abilities, like Silver Tongues and Everyone Steals, feel very much like a foundation to me.  I found myself wanting to add them to crews I as thinking of.  Then again, having all crews have all special abilities sounds important too.  I don’t know.  That’s just an example.  Guidelines will be good when they come.
