So I’ve played a few solo adventures now. Using the random tables for inspiration and the gather information move, it works surprisingly well… Better than any other game I’ve tried to pay solo previously.
Basically I’m using gather information to ask questions about the mission. I go through those questions and try to come up with cool answers. And then I give each of those answers a clock. Then play it out to see what happens!
The action and effect system provides plenty of variation in play, and coming up with devils bargains also adds plenty of twists. Altogether an enjoyable experience.
I was mainly playing to get my head around the rules, but I was very impressed with how the system and its procedures provide so much I unexpected and interesting fiction.
Awesome!
yep is another thing im getin with this game, also the cming mentioned in the faq.
That’s exciting! I’ve never done solo gaming like that (except Fighting Fantasy books when I was a kid). Glad to hear Blades is a good fit.
I like that Dan! I also solo games a fair bit when I’m travelling on long plane trips and such. Especially solo Traveller by the rules (back in the 80’s).
I really dig the clock concept, the thought that they tick down interminably with no chance of dealing with them all is wonderful. Each gather info roll deals out one or more clocks to overwhelm you with!
How did you simulate DBs? Just what you thought was interesting? Did you always take them? I think they might have to be the default in solo – if you come up with a good DB, then you have to take it.
This may be good stretch goal +John Harper! I’d be happy to work with +Dan Hall on these rules 🙂
I may just have to start jotting a few things down!
Roll 2d6 for clock size on each obstacle, provide the fiction to support, maybe?
This sounds pretty great. I know other folks have wondered if you could solo game with this and it’s nice to hear someone is having success with it. I might have to give it a shot too.
Could you post a writeup of one of your games with notes on how you used the mechanics, what clocks you created etc?
Sure Jane Olszewska . I was thinking of doing that, and seeing as there is some interest, I think I will 🙂 Hopefully I will find  some time to do so tomorrow, before our first Blades session!
