A question about taking point…

A question about taking point…

A question about taking point…

In the Quickstart it says:

“You become backup after you use any special move on point. You take point when you follow-through as backup.”

As a follow-through seems to only trigger from the character on point performing the setup move, I’m wondering who is on point after an overcome or lead a group action moves are chosen?

Is point open to anyone after those other moves? Do you have to pay stress to place someone on point in those cases?

  1. In the example of play: “Allison used her teamwork move on point to overcome the wards for the whole team, so now she hands off the point position to someone else. Maybe James steps up so Dor can be on point and use his Lurk talents to lead the team past the Dimmer’s patrols and find where they keep their artifact collection.”

So I think anytime you use the special on point moves, you have to put someone new on point.

  2. No, at that point somebody new takes point while the original leader is taking care of whatever thier taking the special action on. Think of it as if the leader says ‘watch my back while I…’. The person who is left watching thier back is now in charge of the situation in a natural way. If the original leader wants control back then that would be awkward and interrupt both players flow, thus the stress. Now it would be possible for two people to be so in sync that they one can take leadership easily and without stress, but that would sound like a special move to me. Maybe something that would work for the spider?

  3. It’s a spotlight mechanic for group related scenes yeah? You could even totally take point with a retroactive ‘setup scene’ even if your character is not part of the current narrative.

The idea is to remove an awful lot of that pre-planning shenanigans and play to see what happens re-acting in the moment to make the best narrative (and character) choices.

Mechanically the game supports this with the point role.

I likened it to my group as the focus camera of the scene. Whomever is on point is in full frame, with everyone else is backup, as the point shifts, so does the scene time as another character is in full focus. (Which may be totally irrelevant to the continuity of action and cause stress to do so)

  4. Ok, so a new character takes point after the previous point completes their special move. And that can be any character who was on backup.

But point must go (obviously) to the character who performs a follow through (because they’re acting now anyway).

    Thanks guys – very helpful
