check out “life in Duskwall” and tell me what you think. It’s not complete and will evolve as I get advice and inspiration from you shady folk.

  1. Gaming music! Awesome!

Can’t listen until later, but the Blades in the Dark playlist I put together last year was Furnace Room Lullaby (Neko Case) followed by songs alternately from:

    Sleepy Hollow ( Danny Elfman)

    From Hell (Trevor Jones) &

    Philip Glass: Dracula (Kronos Quartet)

  2. Tom Ryan This playlist is awesome, man. Fantastic job capturing that gloomy folk with an edge vibe! You obviously put a lot of thought into it.

I have a few extra recommendations for your consideration: Shankhill Butchers by The Decemberists, Mosquito Song by Queens of the Stone Age, Lissie’s cover of Danzig’s “Mother”, and pretty much anything from The Dead Weather’s album “Sea of Cowards”

  3. The theme’s to The Wire and True Detective might also be evocative and worth thinking about, too. (Way down in the Hole by The Blind Boys of Alabama and Far From Any Road by The Handsome Family)

  4. For me the theme to True detective was…well the theme to True detective. Love it but it creates very specific memories for me. that being said I will add it to the list…it fits very well with what I already have.

Hadn’t thought of the wire though…what is the name of the theme song?

  5. Really like the instrumental pieces here. Some of the others I can imagine being great inspiration for some Duskwall prep to but I prefer most songs on a gaming playlist to be w/o vocals.

    Nice stuff!

  6. I used to make my soundtracks be all instrumental so they could be less intrusive during game time but I am finding some song just say “gritty thieves” really well. Thanks to Rob Wieland for mentioning “dark wave” which is loaded with great evocative songs for this genre. the other reason to add some of the vocal songs is to balance out the instrumentals…it’s hard to keep this griity, dark and edgy without going to maudlin or too “action movie”. “Hush”, “Stolen” and some of the others bring a nice edge to the list I think.

  7. Plunkett and Maclean is such an inteersting soundtrack…the song you mention (“ball”) is very high energy and dancey but is great for say a con or heist in the middle of a crowded room…say during the dance ball 😉

    great pick and it’s in!

  8. Just added the “theme” to my spotify list…

what do people think about “Vengeance Is Sleeping” from Neko Case…good addition?
