  1. I had a similar reaction to the one Ben Jarvis has had.

Band of Blades kind of reminds me Blood Red Sands by Ralph Mazza, too. I’m the only one to have thought of it?

  2. Thats freaking awesome…  been waiting for a game that can do that well and get the social part of it… It never worked well as a D20 game…. Burning Wheel maybe, but not a D20 game.

  3. Yes! Band of Blades is very Black Company. It has some other inspirations in the mix, but BC is a great primary touchstone.

Most folks know my personal fandom of cyberpunk, but few know that I’m a huge fan of Dark Fantasy as well.

One of the things I realized running BitD for my group is that it’s got this excellent handling of creepy and horror things. As a GM you can push things, but the Blades have stress meters and teamwork to give them outs and paths through such situations. It’s not pretty. Many descend into vices, and become scarred broken people (very Darkest Dungeon in some ways) but it’s a really good toolset for telling those kinds of stories.

I’m planning to talk about it a bit more in this community in a few days (you’ll probably get a link to the pitch then). But it’s awesome to see people excited about this!
