Blades in the Art: The Avant-Garde

I went through some feedback and made some changes to the Avant-Garde. I also finished the claims map and specialty crew upgrades and added descriptions to the special abilities.

While I still need to make an Avant-Garde opportunities table, the crew feels play ready. I’ve got my own test of it coming up (which will help flesh out the opportunities table, hopefully) for which I’m very excited. I’ll be detailing some factions that I’d expect to show up as we dig into the Duskwall art scene and I’ll probably attach those to this document the next time I get around to posting an update here. Ultimately, I’d like to have a full playset/quickstart available similar to Vigilantes by Sean Nittner.

As always, thanks for any thoughts, feedback, and encouragement.

The Avant-Garde

The Avant-Garde

Inspired by Renaud van Strydonck’s Artist playbook I decided to start work on a crew type to support and explore the artistic space in Duskwall. Inspired by Beatniks, The Factory, Bohemians, and the Merry Pranksters The Avant-Garde is a crew type about playing artists struggling to find meaning in Duskwall. Whether it is by creating works of beauty, exploring the nature of consciousness and the arcane, or exposing the injustices of their world the scoundrels of The Avant-Garde are sure to face a host of unique and interesting struggles.

So, my Leech is building a saber-toothed tiger hull to ride around on. My group figures that it makes the most sense to treat the hull as a cohort in terms of mechanics.

However, we aren’t sure what the quality of such a cohort would be. Making a hull means crafting 3 tier 6 parts, 1 tier 5 part, and 2 tier 7 parts. That would give it a quality of at least 5, probably 6. However, rolling 5 or 6 dice is pretty ridiculous.

On the other hand, the hull is going to cost about 20 coin and 6 downtime actions to craft and inventing it will take another 18 or so downtime actions so treating it as an expert cohort (tier + 1) feels a bit underwhelming for the effort.

Thoughts?

I’m confused about the rail lines in the Imperium.

I’m confused about the rail lines in the Imperium. The Brightstone sheet mentions Bowmore Bridge as perhaps the largest in the Imperium. But the map of the Shattered Isles shows rail lines connecting the different islands.

What form do these rail lines take? The train from Spirited Away comes to mind as a possibility…
