So, you all know about Andrew Shields’ Heist deck right? And I guess you’ve probably seen his ‘sample’ uses like this one:

Well, I took one of +Vasco Mourao’s excellent drawings and coloured it with the Tower of Holtz Clermont’s retro-fitting in mind: With lightning wall technology for protection….

I got as contacts the rather lovely Theodore Lysander; pimp spy, Eric the White; an old war buddy of Drav’s with a revolutionary bent, and as the treasure: the infamous Charter of Crows; an arcane gauntlet that will be the downfall of the Spirit Wardens and the key to the plans of overthrow by the Motes.

A few rolls on the location tables got me…. A warm alchemical tower owned by a mad professor in Silkshore. The area is resplendent with flickering lights and alchemical smells. Unusually, chimes and tinkling bells fill the air.

Back to the heist deck for the dangers… The location is curiously defended by arboreal dangers: the Murder Tree, thirsty thorns and Sweat Nectar. This ought to be fun!

Anyone played with the Cult Crew sheet?

The gang have uncovered the ‘unbroken sun’ an ancient level of worship that seeks to burn away institutionalised dogma and allow folks to make up their own minds in the light of the sun’s dismal rays.

I’m keen to work with the transition, as Drav the hound (now nicknamed the Scion after his encounter with the unbroken deity) is drawing the other two into his evangelical world.

I really like the cult crew sheet’s differences to a more conventional gang of scoundrels. I’m thinking of appropriating some more imagery from the lies of Locke Lamora. But what of reconciling scoundrel behaviour with cult like behaviour? Is it inevitable that the cult is an unsavoury one due to its unlawful activities and larceny?

So In my quest for Leviathan inspiration, I’ve been trawling deviant art and found this.

What cool images of leviathans spark your imagination?

Whilst searching for ‘backdrops’ as a means to pimp the con playtest kit I bring along, I stumbled across Mister Mourao. This guy’s stuff is so amazingly ‘out there’ but applicable for Blades.

The crazy framing and Escher-esque design elements give a strange zoomed in effect, that dare you to dive right in. Like choosing what sort of heist the next score will be and then rolling engagement and going for it!

The possibilities for washes and colour are obvious, and I plan to print a few off and just have them lying on the table with some colour pencils for folks to doodle with whilst playing – if not to choose as a scene framing tool or narrative positioning as we ‘make maps like crazy’.

I Love this stuff, hope its of help to someone.
