I noticed when watching RollPlay: Blades that the map they used is different from the one in the 7.1 quickstart, it’s been rotated to 90 degrees or so.

Is there any chance we can get a labeled map like that? John Harper

So, I’m playing a hound in a upcoming game with my freinds, and a question has been brewing in the back of my skull. What kind of guns are in blades? Are they flintlocks, or are they like early 1900’s guns? Should I have a brace of pistols, or a gunbelt for a revolver?

Hey guys, first time poster here. So, two questions: I am interested in running Blades in the Dark as a campaign (with me as GM) with a group of relative new comers to RPGs (they never took part in a campaign, only played oneshot adventures like Dread, etc); do you think the system is too mechanic-heavy for first timers? And do you have any tips? The second question is that me and my boyfriend were planning, in preparation for the aforementioned campaign, to try out Blades in the Dark in a 1-on-1 setting (we’ve done this with Dungeon World and Call of Cthulhu and it went well), with me as GM and him as the player. However, due to the Crew mechanic, how would you do this? I’ve been trying to find someone’s experience with 1-on-1 Blades, but found nothing. Thank you, and sorry for any possibly broken English!

If a player flashes back to a downtime action, but they used all their “free” downtime actions, should the flashback’s stress cost cover the flashback itself and the extra downtime action cost ..or.. do I charge stress simply for the flashback, then also charge coin/rep to squeeze in the extra downtime?

So, we’ve had about six sessions of play (8-9 heists) and we have realy started to get the flow of the system.

So, we’ve had about six sessions of play (8-9 heists) and we have realy started to get the flow of the system. The session before last the Entanglements started to drive the story. As en entanglement, one of their contacts had been roughed up by some Severosi revolutionaries and while they showed’em who’s boss, Ulf Ironborn took their gambling den.

To the question: Does taking out tougher NPC’s need to be considered a complex action (countdown clocs) or are they taken out by one lucky stab but the positioning determines the rolls (desperate, fewer dice etc)?

John Harper RE: Recent change to Reducing Heat with an Action roll (replaces Tier roll): Reducing heat is one of those downtime actions that can carry risks to even get in position to do it as soon as the players want to try something creative. I have always wondered the degree to which we GMs are supposed to enable them to do it: should any criminal easily be able to bribe some bluecoats they’ve met because COIN? Shouldn’t we be having a conversation about the possible effect of the approach they take?

On that note: is the Action Roll for heat reduction only rolled after getting in fictional position to make this Heat reduction without much risk; or when the controlled/risky/desperate action is taken, do we roll that action to simultaneously determine whether those risks come to bear and to find the amount of heat reduced?

Related: a thought I had was “this is downtime,” but I remember early in the Bloodletters, Sean Nittner/Arcy, and some Bluecoats over a canal.. and several risks which I took to mean you adjusted to fit what was going on. Wonder if what you did with the multiple action rolls would go any differently as of 7.1

Crew rules seem to indicate that when a cohort has quality higher than 1 (say..4), and that adding a type (which I can do twice in a single crew advance) means that cohort now has 4d in doing the Things covered by the new type(s) when it was previously 0d.

[Q1] Is that right?

That would make a highly invested cohort a way to get dice in lots of actions. Which, I guess it’s all in the level of detail you want for cohorts too, and I see reasons why this might be intentional design to keep bookkeeping down, but it would stretch the narrative a bit for me for that hypothetical to happen, so I am wondering if all is right here, and if so –

[Q2] how to sidestep or overcome fictional dissonance that if it comes up?

Another Smugglers question

Smuggler Rigging: we are exactly sure how to interpret this in conjunction with how Load determines how obvious you are that you are up to nefarious deeds. Possibilities we came up with are

1.) it downgrades how conspicuous you are (Normal becomes Light, Heavy becomes Normal)

2.) it adds two extra items that don’t count towards your load limit

3.) it means two items can never be taken away from you by other people if stowed away

What do you all think, or how has it been adjudicated before?

Looking for general advice on running a Oneshot of BITD.

Looking for general advice on running a Oneshot of BITD.

I’ll be running my first IRL roleplaying game, seemed like BITD was a perfect fit, the only issue being that I’ll be running for the group of a friend of mine who usually runs a very goofy game of D&D. I’m wanting to do something a bit gritter. Any general advice on making such a transition? I think I’ve got buy-in from the players but once the dice hit the table I want to make sure the darker tone sticks. Thanks in advance! General advice is appreciated as well.

Question about Smuggler’s Supply Lines

I’ve just started a new campaign and my player’s are playing a smuggler crew. One of the things I’m trying to piece together is what that actual means for them so that I can make sure that they get that free downtime action and I know how to explain how they can expand when they go up in tier.

Other Crews sheets can use The Drop since its a defined area of the city, if i was to translate that to a supply line, would that mean that they have a or a few hidden routes through the city or an area of the city? And how would I deal with the fact that they chose the Barge (+Mobility) option for the lair?
