So obsessively, nerdily stoked to be running Blades for the first time in a couple of weeks that I found myself writing opening titles to go with your (superbly chosen) theme song.
I found Furnace Room Lullaby powerfully cemented the themes and imagery of Blades in my head (my own imaginative bias is aural) – conjouring the sleek way the best contemporary TV series blend stylistic and genre elements to create something at once fresh and familiar. I suppose this was your intent!
All of which is to say the more cinematic touches and mechanics of this game are a real asset to the imagination – combining with shared narrative responsibility to be a real boon to newer GMs. Thank you.
This just about reads (aloud, breathlessly) in the time the song takes – so may well narrate at the table…
Enjoy!
Does anyone have a good floor plan for a train car that they’ve used for a job?
Does anyone have a good floor plan for a train car that they’ve used for a job?
I’ve got some good ones for Pullman Sleeper cars but was curious if anyone had one they liked.
For their next job, the Hellspawn will have to steal an attache case from an Imperial Agent for a demon.
My Blades prep is largely about printing out images from Pinterest and sticking them to oversize index cards.

Hello fellow scoundrels!
Hello fellow scoundrels!
I was wondering if someone here has found his/herself in the situation of playing/GMing with only one player (one PC)? Can this even be done with BITD in the first place?
Your insights are gratefully awaited!
Salut!
Question about firearms.
Question about firearms.
It seems to me that the general opinion is that firearms in Duskwall is rather “primitive” with single load shooters.
However, I am pretty much sticking to the rest of the settings 1870s references, in which firearms were actually getting pretty good.
I know we can do what we want, but what are peoples opinions on firearms in Duskwall?

Alright @everyone , with my Dagger Islander Slide currently marinating into a Vamp, I’m gonna have to play a new character in this three-shot-turned-campaign Hawkers group that has developed a penchant for selling people. I’m gonna let ya’ll decide which of two characters it is I play. Will I play…
Bryl – A drug dealer from a family of drug dealers and the former-Slide’s friend in his contacts, who has no idea where his old business partner has vanished to, but with the Crew getting bigger sees an opportunity to join up with them as a main member. Bryl is a Leech who starts off with Alchemist (the formula has not yet been decided on, but will likely be some kind of drug). His vice is smoking Fine Cigars he purchases from Traven’s Smoke Shop.
Brena – A noble, student at Charterhall University, and “Expert Slut” the Crew picked up to help them with a honeypot-trap, though that didn’t go as planned; the Crew’s recently proven they’re tougher than the rival gang they hired her out from and she’s tired of playing second-fiddle to them, so now she wants in full-time, as a part of the leadership. Brena is a Spider who starts off with Connected. Her vice is partying ’til she drops with the other students of Charterhall University.

What makes the Immortal Emperor well… immortal?
What makes the Immortal Emperor well… immortal?
I realize it’s left up for interpretation at least until the Kickstarter adventure releases but what have been some folks ideas for their gsmes?
I’m fond of the idea of a Lord Vampire, secretly changing the world that has fallen in to his own vision…
Or a giant, perhaps the last giant whom rules and seeks a world reborn…
Or the sorceror of legend, the one who caused the cataclysmic fallout of the world…
What are your ideas? GMs? Developers?
HEROIC FIGHTS (option)
HEROIC FIGHTS (option)
This is an option to convey a more ‘heroic’ feel to fights in BiD.
As a caveat, I don’t think there is anything wrong with the mechanics as they are, and I realize that fights are deliberately punishing in BiD, since the point of the game is mostly about trying to avoid physical confrontation. What I’m exploring here is just an option that may suit some situations (e.g. a swashbuckling sequence) or possibly other more combat oriented settings.
Mechanics:
Handle characters’ attacks as usual, but on a 1-5 result, allow the option to take a Defense roll without using Stress. Let’s call this a ‘Soft Defense’ roll: on a 6 avoid all damage, on a 4-5 it decrease damage by one step, on a 1-3 don’t mitigate anything.
The normal Defense roll is still available, using Stress to completely negate damage, but it is either this or the Soft one that the player has to choose before attempting the roll.
This will make fights last a bit longer a be a bit more tactical, but it could be fine for a change of pace.
Feedback is welcome.
