Excited to begin running Blades in the Dark.

The campaign: “Blades Oblique” with the tagline: “Unfaithful but not Disloyal” starts in a couple of weeks and I found the perfect theme song:

We are still in the midst of character creation, one player was out of town so no score tonight. But my players weren’t content with your regular vices, no drinking or gambling here.

I have a Whisper who is obsessed with painting temporary tattoos on people, or himself if no one volunteers. He wants the ink he uses to be “spirit infused” Not sure how to work that one yet

Then there is the Cutter from the Dagger Isles with his Bonsai collection

And I have a Lurk with an obsession with all things clockwork

Hey I’m curious, has anyone gotten a hold of the full city map of Duskvol?

Hey I’m curious, has anyone gotten a hold of the full city map of Duskvol? I’ve been wanting to draw up a good “turf” map using the one John uses in RollPlay but none of the pages in the main book gives something good to work with.

There are probably good reasons for putting the backers at the very back of the book, so hopefully nobody will take offense if I suggest switching the order of the backer list with the index?

Having the index as the last pages in the book makes it a little quicker to find in both paper form and digital form. While playing a game, especially as kind of a new player to Blades, I’ve found myself hunting for the index a lot. Going to the bottom of the document and then having to scroll up a bunch to find the index is a pain. Much as I love the backers. 😉

I think my favorite bit of Blades in the Dark just might be the Lights in the Darkness section on page 240 that deals with how citizens mark the time, the strange refraction of the moon as it passes through the night sky, and the eerie stars visible from beneath the inky seas. Very evocative and cool, and pushes all my geeky world building buttons.

But I’m having a Lethal Weapon moment trying to work out the details of the timing structure. Does the”first hour” start at the same time when dawn occurs or does the first hour kick in an hour after dawn? In other words, if I were looking at a Doskvol clock, would dawn occur at 1 (the first hour) or at the preceding 12 (the hour of smoke)? Or are there 26 hours in a Doskvol day with dawn and twilight added into the mix?
