I managed to play-test the first version, which only included the worksheet and the faction actions.

It was nice being able to look over the sheet and just see the level of heat you have with each faction.

I’ve set up a testing procedure for this version, I’ve just got to organise my friends to lend a hand.

I’ve begun using my current blades game as a testing ground for changes for my own game/hack.

I haven’t been finding the faction downtime, faction status and entanglements systems to be that satisfying. So my current tinkering has led me to this untested system.

– Factional heat

– Status integrated into the heat track, you can’t move down the heat track past those black bars without agreement from the faction.

– Faction downtime actions rolled into entanglements.

I haven’t specified how you choose the entanglement during downtime. Although if you’re at war with someone they always take an entanglement with you every downtime.

The driving idea behind this was to reestablish a chain of consequence between your actions and the trouble you face during downtime. Among other considerations.

I’ve thrown together this PDF for testing. 🙂

John Harper; I’ve been thinking about honor, insults, face and high society after Sean Nittner posted that clip from the blades rollplay.

Would you have any hints, books, resources, suggestions, ect, on how to bring these elements into the fiction? Where did you learn how the social elements of upper class society function?

Would someone mind clarifying to me when you talk about the engagement roll? When is it set and discussed?

One of my players had a question. For the Cutter’s Resilient ability; how does it work?

Do you have to first recover then mark segments?

Well this took longer than expected.

Well this took longer than expected. I kept on fiddling with the layout until it was right, all the while cursing the Leech playbook for needing so much space.

Let me know if there are errors. 🙂

They’re not quite right as it stands currently. Perhaps a little too much white space in some areas.

Input on the layout and content would be helpful.

I’d forgotten i’d made this excellent evernote note.

I know that part of the games goal is to change the dynamic of play at the table. (At least that’s what i’ve gathered from listening to some interview with John and the GMing section.)

I think that’s really cool. In practice it can be difficult to implement though, especially if you have ingrained bad habits, or something doesn’t click.

So If there was going to be a blades in the dark primer, a starter example which teaches both the initial rules and the… method, play style or ethos? of the game.

What do you think it should include?

I’ve been thinking a set of player moves and principles might be helpful, in the same style as the GM reference. Just as a start.
