Hey, so I took a short break from Streets of Passion to work on this other game, Wardens of the Iron Garden. I wouldn’t call it Forged in the Dark. Probably more in common with lady blackbird. I’ve attached it here.

But I wanted to talk about the modified stress mechanic, because I want to use it in my other game (streets of passion). In Wardens, I decided to remove vices. Rather than replace it with something else, I opted to make stress unremoveable, and I bolted on the marks mechanic from Night Witches. Traumas are now rolled up into the marks. In our first playtest session, someone already maxed out their stress. What do you think of this? Too finite?

Made a quick pass at a character sheet for a Blades/World of Dungeons/Night Witches hack for the Rifts Chi-town setting. I’m calling it Wardens of the Iron Garden.

Not gonna go too far with this, just wanna play it at home. The idea is that you’re a police task force trying to clean up the chi-town burbs but you’re part of a fascist machine so that means “cleaning up” also means stomping on the heads of innocent poor people. Sort of a reverse Training Day. The only way to advance your character is to “follow orders.”

I finally compiled all of the crew and playbooks I have for Streets of Passion, my 80’s future crime hack.

Lots of it is straight up imported from BitD but obviously there is a lot of retooling involved. Vices were replaced by complications, where players have to balance their personal lives with their street lives. I’ve played it a few times and it’s much lighter in tone than blades and is great for one-shots.

Soft Trauma: Has anyone ever picked this?

Soft Trauma: Has anyone ever picked this?

Soft Trauma: Has anyone ever picked this? It’s really intriguing to me, but seems like it would have definite pitfalls. I’ve never seen anyone pick it in any actual plays. Of all the traumas, it’s the least romanticized or admired in the movies. But I remember how it effected Arthur Shelby (a.k.a. the Platonic Ideal of Blades in the Dark character, a.k.a. trauma magnet) and how gripping it was.

I think there’s an idea/fear that the player has to constantly pull out the pacifist/paladin lawful good card, basically being absent during fight scenes, or throwing a monkey wrench into every combat scenario. The way i’d play it, is to more often push myself to rack up stress, and take relevant devil’s bargains constantly. Show that the violence takes a toll, and that the character has to often stop lest they get drawn into more trauma.

I’ve been working on a hack tentatively called Streets of Crime A.D.. It’s based on mashing up:

Robocop

Golan-Globus ninja movies

C.O.P.S. (cartoon)

A-Team

Dirty Harry

Satanic worshippers in 80’s media

stuff like that.

Anyway here’s a cobbled-together ninja playbook. I’m also toying with replacing vice with skeletons, which kinda work like obligations from edge of the empire but more central to the mechanics.

After some thought, I’ve decided that killing Lord Scurlock’s butler (while having a -1 standing) is an act of war.

After some thought, I’ve decided that killing Lord Scurlock’s butler (while having a -1 standing) is an act of war. How would you handle a war between a tier 0 cult and LS? Would it be any different than any other type of war? I think yes.
