So I’m in an assassins crew, and I’m GMing a Shadow crew. Both crews want anonymity in the public eye – they’re very much oriented to being a “service” provider. Now some of the claims look good, having turf can be mechanically useful – but what does it mean to take turf from another gang in these scenarios? Why would murder-for-hire (accidents, low heat, very professional) want to have a stake on some streets?

What does turf look like to them?

I figured they get an action related to their field in downtime “off camera” generally a roll equated to their quality (which makes them rather weak in the early stages). Then we spotted “All Hands” in the smugglers crewsheet which means the above is actually a playbook ability.

So, outside of the obvious thugs helping you gain scale in a fight, how do you use cohorts and how do you apply them to actions outside of a score?

Out group also wanted a leech working fulltime – is a character sheet created with the full benefits of the character (along with LTP and other DT actions) or do the players get to tap the leech npc for specific things in certain ways?

So my players have a ton of stress and a lot of injuries after a streak of very dangerous scores, and are thinking of triggering an intentional overindulgence and letting their characters get ‘lost’ to wipe the slate clean.

Mechanically this means they all skip the score, clear off all injuries and come back fresh. But if they all skip a score – what happens? Do we just do multiple downtimes without xp?

I can move some clocks in the interim representing the “ongoings behind the scenes” but other than that – what would you suggest?

Yesterday we blew the dust off the boardgame “Lords of Waterdeep”. A couple of years ago while playing it, our group was lamenting how there isn’t really a good way to get the games concept – secret lords sending agents on missions to claim power in a fantasy city – into a viable rpg. Two of use tried to write up a dark victorian world, built on a harbour with steampunk elements, but it fizzled once we couldn’t really settle on how to make the rules work. In our research online we discovered Blades.

I really recommend Lords of Waterdeep as a board game, and a part of me would love to reskin the whole thing as Spiders of Doskvol (curse you expensive printing supplies). It would fit so beautifully!

Also do you have any slang terms for money? We’re not fond of “coin” in play, feels like it’s referencing the mechanic directly. Trying to dig up words that work with eels, but figured hey, ask the community.

Our group is about to start our delve into Blades and we ran a short test score to play with the rules and our Whisper started throwing ideas out and I didn’t know exactly how to catch them.

What cool things can you do with compel? How have you used it in play in fun and interesting ways? What clever uses have non-Whisper characters done with Attune?

Can I have some anecdotes from you guys to get a feel of how this played out in your Doskvol?

I live in an island nation whose entire population is less than half a million. Though crammed, there are no dense cities to speak of. Still we have a few thousand years of history, some really great architecture in the few old fortified towns. I tend to tap my homeland for games like Blades, where I reference these spaces, distance and possibly the kind of living quarters known to everyone at the table. However I lack the diversity and range a city provides – do yo integrate your real world into your Doskvol?
