I like the name “Duskwall” better.

I like the name “Duskwall” better.

I like the name “Duskwall” better. “Doskvol” is cool and should definitely be mentioned (creative etymology has a long and proud tradition in fantasy) but it just does not sound as evocative as “Duskwall” to me.

  1. Yep, that’s the idea. Everyone pretty much calls it Duskwall now, so keep on doing that in your games and it’s all good.

The Immortal Emperor is over 1000 years old and is a stickler about what’s on his maps. 🙂

  2. I personally prefer Doskvol. Duskwall sounds like a name chosen to sound imposing, while Doskvol just sounds plain weird, a big plus in my book! It also distances the City a little from Dunwall, which is a central reference to some of my players.

  3. More to Heng benjamin’s point, as someone who’s a linguistics nerd, Doskvol is easier to pronounce properly across languages than Duskwall, because the ‘uh’ in Dusk doesn’t exist in some languages.

  4. Oh, btw, I kind of did a blanket find-and-replace on the name when I made the new update. But in the next one, the city name will vary more between the old name, the common name, and other nicknames.
