Just been reading the v8.1 setting descriptions for all the areas of Duskvol and it’s great. Excellent work John Harper. Quick question for you though; is there any particular reason why Dunslough is the only district that doesn’t have a special effect? All the others do (e.g. +1d to acquire assets but with +2 Heat) and I really like the way it gives a mechanical effect to the area which changes the feel, but Dunslough has been missed/snubbed.
For everyone else, who runs Tangletown in your games, and how do they keep order since violence is not allwed there?
It creates an itch that you want to scratch.
To find out the Dunslough special effect, you need to Gather Information.
When Gathering Information in Dunslough, all attempts suffer from [TRANSMISSION ENDS]
John Harper Well, it’s certainly done that.
Tangletown hasn’t come into play yet in my game, but I’ve planned for it since it might in the future. In my eyes, nobody controls Tangletown — order is kept by all who go there just as part of the taboo. It’s just one of those things everyone knows and everyone respects. Those who don’t know learn quickly and those who don’t respect it disappear before their next visit. No one person or organization causes these disappearances; it’s just whoever has the opportunity.
Jason Lee Cool. Hopefully all of the other district examples will be useful examples when you make your own for Dunslough.
Oh, they’re great inspiration already, John Harper. Partly I wanted to check to see if it had just been missed, or if there was a particular reason (e.g. That it isn’t a place that you’d be able to spend much time because of the prison). I’m sure we’ll come up with something.
