I often find myself stumped narrating 4/5 results that aren’t just Harm or Reduced Effect. I was inspired by Rob Donoghue’s blog post about Risks (http://walkingmind.evilhat.com/2018/01/17/risks/), and decided to brainstorm a table of Actions to Consequences. I’ve also noticed that we sometimes go through a Score with plenty of Load left, so I included a column of situations that might prompt them to use Equipment.

This table is incomplete, and I’d love it if people could add ideas. I focused on the Actions my crew uses the most, mixed the ones I found easiest to brainstorm.

  1. that’s nice! One of my fears as a GM was / is always that I don’t come up with orginal/cool complications or Devils Bargains. Therefore I started my own lists for this but mine are not structured along the actions but my situational (like stealthy, social, etc.). Maybe there’s a way to add them to your structure. Will give this a try soon.

  2. Roe Portal , Could you elaborate? Most of these I could see as either a direct consequence or a clock to a consequence depending on how hard the GM feels like playing. What are some consequences you think should always be clocks?

  3. most clocks can also be just consequences, you’re right. but things like “Demonic attention”, “Alarm”, “betrayal”, “Deadly poison in your veins” and “Sudden but inevitable betrayal” tend to be a great clocks.

  4. S. Tan Added my list at the bottom. That’s translated from englisch to german and back again, so I hope you understand what I meant. Again I want to tip my hat to Uncle Aldo because many of the entries came from his list.

  5. Good job, I am also working on a list similar to yours but I’m only focusing on Prowl .. got three pages that cover minor, mid, and severe consequences/complications. I am using it for a solo version of BitD that i am playing.. think Thief meets tabletop 😉 i finished my first score.. stealing an artifact tablet. I ended up with like 5+ pages of notes from the score. I have to admit, I was nervous (even though I was playing solo).. Took like 6 stress on the first score.
