I may get the privilege over the holidays to run a version of Scum and Villainy for my daughter and a few of her…

I may get the privilege over the holidays to run a version of Scum and Villainy for my daughter and a few of her friends, all in the 8-9 year old range. One thing I am looking at is changing the theme of Vice to something a little more age appropriate so that my little gaggle of players aren’t running off on drunken binges, gambling their credits away, or seeking oblivion in the abuse of drugs in order to heal their stress. ๐Ÿ™‚

Any ideas on what to reskin this as?

  1. What I’ve found works is playing up the obligations, causes, arts, games, and other interests/pastimes. I could get you a bit list if you’re interested.

  2. Thanks for asking this question (and for the responses). I’m planning to run Scum and Villainy with my 8 year old daughter and was going to drop Vice entirely – mainly due to age appropriateness, but I also thought a stress auto-refill in downtime might encourage her to spend it more freely (and with it just being the 2 of us that might be helpful). Now I have a few extra options to consider!

  3. You could probably get by just by changing it to “Hobby”, and adjusting the tone by changing the individual Vices, making them as innocent as things like Partying, Shopping, or Sports. Purveyor can just be where you go or who you go with (X store, Y group of friends, etc.). For overindulgence Lost and Big Talk can remain the same and Bender just becomes Overspending.

  4. Yes. I suggest: Blowing off Steam, or Relaxing (rest & relaxation)

Here’s a quick list of you:

    Holo-Gaming

Exploring (free climbing buildings on Warren, fun jungle adventures elsewhere)

Reading (if there isn’t a library, you can find some on board)

    Food and Vids

Friends! (who do you visit with?)

    Here’s some good overindulgences:

Ouch! You played rough, someone got a sprained ankle. Take L1 harm.

Shouldn’t be doing that: +2 heat. Guess you shouldn’t have been exploring or playing there…

Trip: Takes a cred to pay for fees and special games/movies etc.

Let me know if that helps, and REALLY let me know how the kids like it.

  5. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions! The game is set for tomorrow, so wish me luck! Since tomorrow’s game is essentially a one shot, the plan is to simply abstract it to a Rest & Relax action as has been suggested.

I’ll let you folks know how everything pans out. If you don’t hear from me in a couple of days, send backup!
