Am I Crazy or is there no description in the Early access of what a cohort actually does? The only reference I can find is in the “command” action section (do a group action where you roll command and they roll quality). Is this generally how they work, I’ve seen John Harper using them in the stream games, but am still a little confused – They can only contribute to group actions and regardless of what action, they add quality? or does their “type” (Thug, Adept etc.) determine what actions theyre allowed to contribute to?

You aren’t crazy, but it’s possible you missed p.45 Crew Creation. Or maybe you saw it and thought it was too flexible (which I have also heard, but actually enjoy this about cohorts)
On page 48, at the bottom of the middle column, it details the way a Cohort works. The middle column is called “Creating a Cohort” but it’s really “Everything About Cohorts Essentially”
Ah yes, I missed this: “When a cohort performs actions for which its types apply, it uses its full quality rating. Otherwise, its quality is zero.” It’s still kinda unclear to me whether they can act alone? I assume they can’t “assist” because they have no stress. it seems logical they could do a setup action or follow a group action. all G
I have always ruled that cohorts can participate in, but cannot lead teamwork actions. This means group or setup actions as participants is fine. However, they can’t protect, assist, or lead (because they lack stress tracks). I am unsure about set up actions on their own, but I wonder if that might be where the “independent” edge is supposed to come in
Jamie – if they’re independent (that’s a cohort trait) they can do things on their own. Otherwise you really want to lead them or they’ll probably screw it up.
thanks for everyone’s help 🙂 Good to know they work pretty much as expected, just wanted to check it wasn’t yet spelled out somewhere I was missing
