I am thinking about making a list of 100 site defenses used in Duskwall, and giving each one elements to strengthen it or weaken it.
Roll 2-4 times, then interpret how they fit together, and you’ve got a quick-generated site that can be tweaked to make it more interesting and inspire players to target its weaknesses.
Oh, heck, yes! For the GM under a time crunch….
Yeah, to whip up a site in the time it takes players to get you a drink and take a biological break. =) Three rolls and three minutes of scribbling, and possibly consulting a random name chart. =)
Andrew Shields Ahhh yussssssssssss… (steeples fingers, grins wickedly)
Yes please! Altetnatively kick it off and we can crowdsource it.
Dan Voyce I think it’s cool if people make random lists of their own! I’m going to do one myself because I’ve got definite ideas about my Duskwall, and I don’t want to have to edit the contributions that other people make. Better not to solicit than to feel like I need to alter spirit and scope of what’s offered. I want a level of consistency.
Would this get in the way of palyer-invented flashbacks. I mean, once they roll well or poorly their explanation of the defenses they predicted and circumvented (or failed to) would trump your list? (I say this as a backer who is intentionally not reading quickstart versions, so my understanding of the game is hazy for now.)
The focus is on the site the crew is targeting. Flashbacks are generally focused on how the characters prepare to meet obstacles they face. Flashbacks are not generally oriented on creating problems for the crew to face, but instead they focus on creating solutions for problems the crew faces. My chart is about creating the problems. =)
Besides, it’s optional and fan-created, so it offers absolutely no interference to people who don’t use it.
Right. As for the “optional and fan-created” — yeah, I wasn’t policing. Just curious whether it was in keeping with the spirit of the rules or a kind of divergence. Okay if it was/is, again, just curious.
I’m in favor of this. I’d be glad to make it into a page on Abulafia.
I also think it would be neat to make one for owners of heist targets, and one for targets for heists, but one step at a time.
