Anyone tried a submarine hack of S&V? The more I work on a hard Sci-fi spaceship setting for a game, the more I look at submarines. My ideas:
1) Alternate present, we didn’t have a space race, we had an under water race.
2) We didn’t built space stations, we built under water stations (mostly at the base of drilling rigs).
3) Current date.
Nice. Could mix up Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, City Beneath the Sea, Sea Lab 2020, Firefly, and Cowboy Bebop.
Now my brain is playing the music from Octonauts.
Seaquest DSV!
You should watch “hey, shipwreck” its making fun of submarines in space. Its one of those its funny because its true kind of thing a lot of times. You should also check out The Deep on netflix, its actually pretty much what you are suggesting but space exploration has happened. Lastly Blue Planet RPG.
Not sure you would need much more than re-skinning.
I’m not sure about current date, unless it was alternate present. But I really am interested in this and seeing what you do with it!
Had literally same idea. Working vagely on it.
Michael Atlin would like to see what you have! I’m thinking of mixing the spaceships from S&V with the crews of BitD. So we have a crewed submarine.
John LeBoeuf-Little Alternate present, what would underwater habits and vehicles look like today if we put the space budgets into underwater budgets.
I’m thinking fuel cell technology has gotten to the point (because we put money into underwater research instead of space & the Hindenburg disaster never happened) that the German Type 214 use only fuel cells, no diesel. Maybe advancement in Mid-range temperature Regenerative Fuel Cell.
A pure Fuel Cell, smaller version of the Type 214, with a crew of 10-20, being the most common submarine.
Pure electric Unmanned Underwater Vehicles for research and repairs.
A few very large submarines and large underwater stations will be nuclear powered.
There were some classic computer games like AquaNox – great visual inspirations for what you’re looking for.
Check out the Fate World Deep Dark Blue, some good stuff in here: http://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/175636/Deep-Dark-Blue-o-A-World-of-Adventure-for-Fate-Core?term=deep+dark+blue&test_epoch=0
Sean Nittner that and “In Harm’s Way – Pigboats” are the two I like the best so far! A lot of other RPGs are more like D&D characters swimming under water. GURPS has a few books I plan on looking at still.
