I know there is quite a bit of Shadowrun Hacks for Blades, seems like quite the task to do right.

Anyone know of good ones? I am looking for one for a game I wanna run, I love Shadowrun and I wanna see if I can find a good hack instead of just making my own.

  1. I’ve endeavored to ensure it is wholly steeped in that fiction. It’s a design goal. So.. Could you explain?

I stated “All of it being true” ( unless your players agree otherwise, see the opening section ) so Im having trouble making sense of your reply. What could be more submerged?

Edit: maybe you mean.. you want it to restate all the fiction. If so I can see what you mean (I don’t intend to do that)

  2. Mark Cleveland Massengale It has some things that put a Blades cover on some SR concepts like:

    – Free Spirits not resembling SR spirits but Blades Ghosts

    – Drones being more like Blade Vehicles and not SR Drones

    – Crew, Rep, Claims and such working more in the Blades framework but not the Shadowrunner’s fiction.

    – Incarceration, Wanted Level, and all those mechanics of Blades not making a lot of sense in Shadowrun at least not without some extensive rework or strong reframing with some minor modifications but still being used anyway.

In summary, it seems more like SR skin for Blades mostly because of how it doesn’t convey the themes of SR through the mechanics because it’s using Blades mechanics as they are or with slight modifications where it some stronger rework would be needed instead of reframing.

It has a lot of great things, I love most of what I saw of the playbooks and there is a ton of work put into the text that is pretty great for people to start and just Shadowrun, but maybe not as much for me that is very into the themes of SR. It’s a pretty damn good place to start, I am sure I can work from there and deal with those things I pointed out and whatever else I didn’t catch. It’s quite pretty and really well put together. Great job!

  3. Same here! Well.. I was.

But I think I’m guilty of furthering some misconceptions in my text. S’why im glad for the feedback from a player like yourself. I plan to do more to dash those in the next version.

I need more of you in my play test to be honest. Players with no knowledge of Blades or SR form the majority, with a few loud voices that played a lot of SR

  4. Mark Cleveland Massengale It’s good to try and capture the themes of what you are trying to adapt, SR has a lot of neat stuff but in my opinion the themes and how the game interacts with them is from where it all comes from and what makes it the strongest.

It is absolutely what I always design from, but it’s obvious I really like designing from themes wherever that is possible and that is not the only way to design. So whatever makes a good game works.

  5. Hi Mark Cleveland Massengale! I’ve been GM’ing Shadowrun – almost – non-stop since 1988 (I’m an old geezer, you know), and made tons of conversations throughout my life. I call myself quite an “expert” on this matter to be honest.

I checked out your conversion, and honestly – Im fraggin’ impressed! I can truly tell, that you’ve been putting blood, sweat and love in the project, and it looks extremely well done!

If you’ll allow me, I would love to playtest it (as a side project) with one of my established groups, and give you the feedback the project deserves.

Unfortunately the link to the Playbooks (both runner and crew) are not working. Maybe you’ll share them with me?

  6. Sune Nødskou oh neat: I started playing in 1990, and GMing shortly thereafter. thanks for your praise! This is as much for us, as it is the new bloods.

re: playtest. Go ahead, that is the idea!

re: playbooks. oh, you must mean the digital ones. yes, that is the case. I started last night after you comment, and that will get fixed tonight when I get off work. My fault for breaking the link. – I will be sure to post a .71 with an updated one in it and report back here.
