While playing with Dan Hall and Craig Vial an hour or so ago there was a brief moment of linguistic confusion over “backup”. It refers both to people not on point and to taking a point of stress to give a die to the person on point, right? Thought it might be helpful to not have it refer to two different things on two different pages.
Also, how does coin for characters work? We couldn’t find anything about characters getting coin. I can’t remember if we read it or remembered it but we get coin when we fill a crew’s advancement ticks, right? When else do characters get coin?
Thank you 🙂
Backup actually refers to a variety of teamwork actions. So it’s more useful to think of it as a blanket term for when you’ve got an ally’s back. When you are backing up another character you might be 1) Facing an effect for them, 2) providing assistance (the 1 stress scenario you described) or, 3) Following up on an action that was set up for you by the point man.
Hope that helps clear some confusion.
As for coin, I believe you can find the relevant section on p.21 or thereabouts. Short answer: get coin after completing scores.
Back up refers to those actions, as you say. They’re on the character sheet. It also, however, refers to +1d for Back up on page 11, the page titled, “The Action Role”. We had a moment of confusion, which I caught. I posted here with the thought that John Harper might be interested.
I’m not seeing anything about coin on page 21 of the 2nd quick start. But thank you, I looked at nearby pages and found something at the end of page 20. Basically, if the crew gets more coin than it can keep, we can give excess to our characters.
When the crew levels up – characters get coin based on the crew level. p.20 QSv2
The coin acquired from scores is allocated as the players want, right? Put in the vault, held by PCs, or stashed? So each score produces some coin that will probably be used by characters.
Yep, Stras and Dan have it right regarding personal coin.
