I’m looking at running Band of Blades this week.

I’m looking at running Band of Blades this week. We’re very familiar with Blades and I’ve had a quick read-through of the 2 books. I think it’s gonna take a session or 2 to get to grips with this one regardless.

I know there’s rumour of an update coming soon so I’m wondering if it’s worth printing it all out now and starting a new game, or should I wait a bit?

  1. Definitely not this week. And getting the full text won’t change the mechanics on you massively. So I say go for it.

And let us know how it goes! I love hearing about folks’ BoB games.

  2. Stras Acimovic thanks! I am rereading everything and will also watch an actual play for more insight.

Quick question: with the starting missions for each chosen, is there also a secondary mission, or just the main one to start with?

  3. Just the main. It’s a good way to get people’s feet wet, and ease them into the game before you dump the whole campaign phase resource management on them.

Also Rad 🙂 Plus me if you have Qs.

  4. Stras Acimovic Does armour get used up when it absorbs damage, like in Blades? Or is it a permanent defense rating for the whole mission?

Thanks for getting involved here, it’s really cool of all of you. 🙂

  5. Hey Mike Schmitz,

    1) There is no post in this group that I can find.

    2) Going to your profile I did find the Powerpoint. Couple problems.

    a) Probably shouldn’t post literal pictures of our work publicly as 90% of your doc, particularly with someone else’s company branding on it (classy), no attribution, and without asking us. Not cool.

    b) Putting aside that the art, layout and other stuff you’re chopping apart is ours, you DEFINITELY didn’t ask us, and that you probably didn’t bother getting the rights to the fonts etc used. The purpose of the handouts is to actually give all this info to the players. Removing the borders and action descriptions and calling it a “handout” isn’t really doing anything. Just print the sheets and hand them out.

    c) If you want to actively make helpful summaries or elevator pitches for players, I welcome it. But that involves you actively writing something in your own words. I hold up the sheets, and describe them regularly when running one-shots at cons. You may want to consider going that route.

I’d really appreciate it if you took that down.
