In your equipment load out does the boxes next to each piece of equipment signify the number of times that equipment can be used? I must be missing it but can’t seem to find the ruling on equipment use, firearm reloading etc

Each box represents 1 point of load. So, a Hound’s fine long rifle uses 2 points of load to equip because it has 2 boxes.
Short answer: The rules on pg 57.
Longer answer: The checkboxes are for tracking load during a score. If you use a large thing, there are two checkboxes showing that that item is heavier/more bulky, so it fills more of your load. For example, if you chose Normal Load at the start of the score, you can check 5 boxes during the score. (The italicized ones technically don’t count towards load, so this is sort of approximate.)
They’re not uses. They’re the space taken up in your loadout.
