I got to play S&V at GenCon and it was a blast, and it made me wonder if gambits would work well in Blades with or without much tinkering.

Josh! John said great things about SaV games at Gencon.
Also be careful, Gambits can change the tone of the game (there’s an emphasis for a thief/heist game on trying to control factors, and making bold desperate plays when things go awry).
They tend to make things a bit more Pew Pew action! Also they tend to increase die-pools (blades runs 4 dots vs the SaV 3) so successes and crits will become much more common.
This may or may not be to your taste.

Thanks for the reply! I realized after I asked that SaV maxes at 3 dots and how that changes things. Gambits are a really awesome addition to the game and I just got excited. 😀
Stras Acimovic thanks for the insight Stras! I was literally scrolling thru here looking for input from you on using 3 dots max for actions instead of 4 in SaV. Was balancing the use of gambits & successes the main reason for that, or was there more to that decision based on tone, etc?
It has to do with probability curves, and how risky we want actions to feel. Remember the game is a conversation. And on a 6 the players say how things go. On a 4-5 the GM can keep the action rolling and participate. If you watch some space opera, they tend to live in that “we open THIS door but the blast door BEHIND it closes” space (RotJ). So one of our early decisions was to try and match the dice probability to that tone, and we found 3 just worked better, when the players had the ability to go all in now and again when it mattered.
