How “british” is your Duskwall? Or what cultures form the basis for it? In my reading the default seemed to assume an almost doomed London. However being the lover of Americana that I am the Duskwall I portray in my game is much closer to Atlantic City or pre Urban Seattle than anything in Europe.

How “british” is your Duskwall?
Terribly, thoroughly, unmistakeably Dickensian, in no small part due to many years of watching BBC period mysteries and several Guy Ritchie movies. Complete with ample borrowings of underworld slang across a broad span of time. Also, I have too much fun doing the accents.
Gangs of New York, Venice, and Victorian London with influence from Persian, Celtic, Viking, British, African, East Asian and colonial America cultures.
Yeah, for me it’s more a mash-up of places in media than their real counterparts; Gangs of New York, Fallen London (Sunless Sea), Peaky Blinders’ Birmingham, the Venice of Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, Boardwalk Empire’s Atlantic City, and, of course, Dishonored’s Dunwall.
I really love to do character voices and dialects, so I’m approaching this question from the “sound” of the city rather than the look or feel. (Although FWIW I have many of the same aesthetic influences as other folks here.) There are a lot of dialects I could only use by appropriation and I don’t want to do that, so here’s what I typically work with:
Akorosi: American English and Cockney (Commoners), RP and Transatlantic (Nobility)
Dagger Isles: Italian (a la Venice but on a huge scale)
Iruvia: Rural Southern US (commoners), Gentrified Southern US (Nobility)
Severos: very generic/nonregional “foreign” dialect mixing bits of French and Spanish
Skovlan: Irish (although I’d love to have a consistently good Swedish/Nordic accent)
Tycheros: way more about the texture and quality of the vocal production than any particular dialect. I try to make all Tycherosi sound a touch “demonic” one way or other.
Duskwall… is basically Dunwall here as well, with a bit of Yharnam. As for the other places/cultures feeding into it, Dagger Isles is Haida/First Nations, Severos is Mongolian. We’ve been doing a lot of stuff with Iruvians/Red Sashes, so seeing a lot of Persian influences.
