I know its probably going to be seen as heresy around here :), but for the last month or so I’ve been running a campaign using the Blades setting, but the Fantasy Age rules as the engine. I’ve written up some actual play stuff about the campaign (and a little about how I adapted the rules for use with Blades), and was wondering if there was any interest in this community in hearing about it?

What prompted the change of system?
Yes please
Minor Illusion Two things. First, I just can’t seem to wrap my head around the BitD rules, despite running lots of PbtA games and reading the rulebook through multiple times. I’ve tried to run a game using the actual rules, and it failed spectacularly. The rules seem oddly mechanical and involved in some areas, and overly abstracted in others (such as using abstracted “coin” in a game about criminals looking to get rich). Others have offered to help me understand the rules, but at this point, I feel like I’ve given them a good shot, and they don’t work for me.
Secondly, half my group is hardcore, long term gamers (including one published designer), and the other half are very casual players who are just there for the characters and story, and never really learn the rules for any game we play. I wanted a very simple rules system that, hopefully (although it hasn’t happened yet…) the casual players could actually learn so I don’t have to constantly prompt them with what to roll, etc.
That’s sounds cool. This post will probably be full of advice on how to learn the system sorry If I’m being annoying but have you tried watching the game being played? I had a lot of trouble in the beginning but everything changed when I watched the Bloodletters actual play stream made by the author.
Gabriel Macena I have watched multiple actual play videos of straight BitD. Unfortunately, I think there are just some fundamental design elements in the game that just don’t work for me.
John Marron Hmm, make sense. The system isn’t for everybody. Would love to know about how you converted the Blades setting to Fantasy Age tho.
Gabriel Macena My conversion is a little 4 page word document. I’ll see if I can figure out a way to host it if folks want to see what I did.
