My players haven’t delved that far into magic stuff, so the craziest it’s gotten was a get-high-on-mushroom-tea-during-an-eclipse-in-a-long-forgotten-shrine-to-meet-god sort of deal
I had a whisperer in one of my Groups who followed a forgotten godess, called “the Mist’ress” or “lady of the mist”, a godess obsessed with shrouding things in mysteries and keeping knowledge and truth about them for herself or those who dare to ask her and able to pay the price she wants.
So the whisperer learned a ritual which let’s him gather information about a topic/creature/location/person that was pertinent. The ritual only worked once per topic/creature/location/Person and could never be used for the same twice, the information that was gained from the ritual was always riddled cryptic or fragmented and had to be unriddled/understood by the Player himself.
