forgive me if this has been asked before but: what’s the best way to design a playbook? i mean this in a fairly material sense; a lot of people have generated very pretty sets of playbooks, and i’m curious what the best software is to do that with and if there’s any advice folks have to offer about design. i’ve been thinking of writing a post-apocalypse science fantasy game for a while and i’d like to start putting things together!

I’m guessing most use InDesign. I use an online platform Canva.com
I don’t own InDesign, so I used MS Excel, MS Word Tables, Scribus even Photoshop. All have their pros and cons, so I’m not able to give a strong recommendation.
I do all my character sheets in Xara Designer Pro, then export to PDF and further processing (form fields, Javascript) in Acrobat Pro.
inDesign here.
this is super helpful, thanks. might be worth it to pick up an indesign subscription, i guess!
Ultimately you are probably best off learning some useful skills in Indesign …
But if you are stubborn and broke like me, you can eventually fandangos some serviceable sheets out of google docs.
