Hello, everyone!

Hello, everyone!

Hello, everyone!

I’ve been running the game for a little bit, but I still feel somewhat fuzzy on my ability to introduce situations. I know this is a very player-driven game, but in terms of actually representing some of the consequences of the player’s actions, how can I actually introduce some that make sense but don’t necessarily fit in an entanglement roll?

For example, my players recently got into a drinking contest with a gang leader, and basically embarrassed him completely. The second-in-command is potentially thinking it might be time to take charge because the current leader is weak. Or perhaps a rival faction tries to seduce them away from someone they’re working with right now.

Essentially, I’m just trying to understand how these sort of things might fit into the structure of Free Play > Score > Downtime > Free Play. I would greatly appreciate help on this!

  1. Feel free to drop plot hooks in the background. If the players go anywhere other humans congregate they can overhear conversations and pick up rumors.

Proactive players can make the decision to milk the situations for fame and profit as they see fit.

If your players are very passive and gravitate toward “quest givers” have their friends/contacts pass along the info with at least one side of a potential conflict openly looking for “outside” help.

I don’t really think it matters when you drop the hooks although players are probably the most distracted and least likely to follow up during a score.

  2. Omari Brooks Thank you for the advice! That’s definitely really helpful. I also realized the book also offers GM moves that aren’t on the GM reference sheet that I had been using as my primary source, so that seems to be the general way is that you can just offer opportunities as you see fit, whether it’s as brazen as someone just walking up to them and offering a job or them overhearing something.

  3. One of my players vice’s is visiting his Mother in Tycheros so the next time he visited during downtime I said she had been abducted by the Deathlands Scavengers and was about to be sold into slavery. Instant score!
