Hacking Blades for a Mythic Approach: The Map
I’m not sure quite how many map zones Stras Acimovic is using for Band of Blades, or even how many is the right amount for a campaign that spans ages, so this map went through a lot of iterations, especially since I wanted to zoom it out a bit to show some of the cosmology of this little world.
This is the top half of the mostly complete end result. Tiny ink print islands with something like meridian lines to break them up.
Would you all like to see:
Names on the islands or would you prefer to make your own?
More stuff? Less?
Will this be a known map, or discovered through exploration?
Benjamin Davis Discovered, but there may have been rumors on the winds (literally, if you have good faction status with the winds!) So I was considering evocative names: “Land of Red Parrot Feathers,” “Never Come Back Island,” etc..
Love this! I also like the idea of having unamed locations that could be created in play (collaboratively or gm sided – or both). But that would be more for an exploration themed game which might not be what you’re going for here. Either way, this map is compelling and art is fantastic!
Looks fantastic! It fully supports the mythical approach!
Regarding the names: If you develop this hack with named islands, then yes, please insert the names on the map.
But maybe not all of the islands have an “official” name. Those will also be nameless on the map, of course.
And maybe you can provide two versions of this map – with and without the names…
Hello! I’m also part of the team working on this hack. I’m very interested in the discussion about how oceanic maps would function for players. We’ve always seen exploration as a key driver of the fiction.
Some named and some blank.
And some random tables to generate what makes a “blank” island an interesting place to stop and explore…
