Can someone clarify what a Turf is? I’m quite confused about it.

What does it do? How should I imagine a Turf? Is that a building? A house? Apartment? A Field? etc

We are Italian and AFAIK there is no direct traduction for this word besides “A grass field”, and this tells me nothing to be honest.

  1. It basically means “territory” so it can be spatial (a few blocks, a building) or sometimes more abstract (a social group), the point is that you’re the boss in that space

  2. Try “territory” instead, which should translate better. It’s the area where the crew normally operates (which means different things depending on what gang type they are). Depending on the scale of their turf, it will be a street, a few street corners, some city blocks, a district… .

  3. An area either physical or non-physical that contains products or people. A brothel is Turf, if you control that you control the money coming in. A protection racket is Turf. If you have control of a place or number of business that you shake down for money that is Turf.

There’s probably an Italian word that has the same meaning as (cue stereotype) you guys invented the idea.

  4. Nigel Clarke You’re right but in this game, AFAIK what you describe as “something bringing money” includes all “claims”, so since the OP is already confused about the meaning of “turf” it is preferable not to mix the two terms.

  5. My poor translation as follows – è parte giurisdizione e parte territo. È dove hai influenza e controllo. Ad esempio, ci sarà una strada di aziende che ti pagherà una “tassa” alla fine della settimana e forse avrai un drink gratis in un bar lì e tagli di capelli gratuiti al barbiere perché si fidano o ti temono.

  6. Nigel Clarke lol, legit.

A B I think I got it, just need to find a proper word for it!

    Adam Brimmer Thank you 🙂

    Thanks all!
