His Cutter is a vigilante Spirit Warden whose spirit was fractured by a demon. Parts of her body have had Sparkcraft installed to harmonize her spiritual energies, keeping her soul from fracturing further. Her memories are also fractured, but not lost. What I thought was a nifty twist is that her Weird vice involves Sawtooth having to literally drain the Stress. Catharsis is impossible for her without the procedure and it manifests as a swirling, black ichor drained through tubes into special vials. Sawtooth studies them in the hopes of both repairing her spirit and, if that’s not possible, at least restoring her lost memories.

And I totally with not ever find a more nefarious use for her vials of liquid Stress! 😉

  1. Idea for a Devil’s Bargain/Consequence!

So, in our games one can Attune to another living person and harmonize their spirits through the Black Mirror, essentially reading pieces of their current thoughts. This is extremely dangerous due to linking living spirits through the deathly realm, risking the attention of ghosts (or worse), discordant backlash, spiritual collision or a combination of the three.

In our Cutter’s case I really like the idea of her missing memories being filled with the victim’s (or perhaps being traded/lost) or from something across the Mirror… The possibilities are freakin’ amazing!

  2. That reminds me of something I had in my campaign, where some rich lady was having her nightmares physically extracted as this slimy black devil-gunk that, if not disposed of properly, formed into skeletal bodies. Naturally, when the PCs burgled her house, they found the closet she was keeping them in and they got loose.

  3. Cool! Reminds me a bit of the Memento movie, regarding switching own memories for foreign ones? Maybe at some point she can not be sure which memories are her own. Or maybe she knows but don’t want to remember and prefers to have them replaces. All that may not be conscious. (insert evil laugh here)

  4. I just love when a simple thing spawns mountains of potential, you know? Like, “Oh, your vice involves watching puppet shows where the stringless marionettes are controlled by ghosts? Awesome! That totally won’t become a probl…err…thing!”. Stuff like that.

  5. Cool ideas. If stress builds, you could make a cool trauma around the demon possessing a piece of the characters mind. Perhaps a specific action or situation then triggers demonic control.
