Hey all, it’s been a while since I posted and I’m posting on behalf of my group who are wanting to play in a murder mystery game, which i think you could reasonably adapt Blade’s mechanics to. I think there’s an Inspector playbook somewhere in the works but is there anyone who has successfully created an investigator crewtype? If not then I guess I’m looking for hands to help hack one in.
I look forward to your responses!
If any of you are familiar with the works of 07thExpansion that’s what we’re trying to emulate, but any advice on murder mystery-ing is welcome here!
You mean something like Umineko?
I mean that’s the eventual goal, I figure starting with a general “investigator crew” and making the magic stuff into abilities is a good way to go. I’ve looked at other systems but I can’t see any more appropriate than blades that are also actually good systems
It really depends on the setting. I’ve run an umineko inspired campaign a couple of times and if you are going for the same personal-ontological drama feel I’d suggest some kind of apocalypse world hack as I did (moves really helped me define the genre and giving focus to some aspects of the story)… if you are going for some kind of detective procedural with umineko metaworld ideas, than maybe blades could work

MisterTia86 I’m more going for the second one, I want to emphasise the mystery genre element and see if I can create a really great mystery story with a roleplaying game, something which (especially with mechanics like the Red Truth) seem nigh impossible without a lot of work. I think Blades is hackable for this but I wouldn’t mind a baseline “detective hack” that I can take and flavour for Umineko rather than creating from scratch.
