Hiyas fellow blades!
Me again, with a very basic confirmation of a rule:
Can be the Devil’s Bargain bonus die be offered and utilised for any type of roll , not just Action rolls?

On pg13 it says “You can use stress to push yourself for greater performance. For each bonus you choose below take 2 stress…Add +1d to your roll (This may be used for an action roll or downtime roll or any other kind of roll where extra effort would help you)”
Yep, thats pushing it, not Devil’s Bargain.
Only for Action rolls. The only place DBs are mentioned is to do with Action Rolls. Also note the diagrams for dice rolling (p23 of the book, p2 of the handouts) list DBs as part of Action Rolls only.
R Cautela yes sorry read that totally wrong. As said already, Devil’s Bargins are only talked in relation to action rolls in the rules so they are probably intended not to be used elsewhere. But with almost all of BitD I’d say it comes down to what your table feels is appropriate and justifiable in the fiction.
That bit about pushing yourself I mistakenly referenced indicates the use of pushing is ultimately at your table’s discression as to when it can be used and I think that same makes sense for DBs. It’s just a matter of making sure the bargin makes sense and is interesting. Off the top of my head the only issue I can think of would be using sacrifice coin or an item as the bargin on downtime rolls as that interacts weirdly with spending coin to upgrade the result level of downtime and items resetting at next downtime.
Alfred Rudzki , thanks!
Finbah Neill , when did you say it before? Thanks (for the response)
Technically, they’re for action rolls. But you can use DBs on other rolls if you want to. I do, sometimes.
John Harper , thanks!
Followup question: can consequences from Devils Bargains be resisted? Looks like they cant.
R Cautela I meant that Alfred had already pointed that part of the rules out in the comment above. I shouldn’t write my comments late at night and first thing in the morning.
LOL
R Cautela That’s right. They can’t be resisted.
Not much of a Devil if you can’t guarantee getting what you want out of the trade. 😉
Jason Lee , are you talking about the scoundrel or the GM? LOL
I was worried it wouldn’t be clear, but just hoped it would make sense.
I meant, as the Devil, the all powerful GM should be getting what they want from the trade. The player shouldn’t be able to get what they want from a Devil’s bargain and get away without consequence.
you can’t resist the consequence of a DB, but i offer to render it useless if someone crits on his roll with it, instead of increased or bonus effect
