I just started running Blades in the Dark for a third group (because I’m a madman), and someone finally bit the hook and made a Mate! I’m excited to see how this band of Shadows deals with having a mischievous little juvenile delinquent along for the ride.

Mate?
Oh yeah! I forgot about the Mate playbook. I think Sean made it. It’s like a sidekick. The special abilities do things like make people help you or spread trouble around if I remember right.
Isn’t that just a cohort?
Kristin Hunt, Mate is a complete playbook.
Lex Permann, Mate’s a playbook Sean Nittner made as an April Fool’s joke. Juvenile delinquent who earns XP by addressing situations with ‘fear and stupidity.’
Oh that’s neat… and kinda cool.
Was it an April Fools joke? I thought it looked like a fun way to play.
Jason Lee, Of the Mate, Sean Nittner says “This was an April Fools joke that ended up having some legs. Here’s a playbook for a young criminal, based entirely off the movie Young Offenders and our quirky love of Cork, Ireland. This playbook was co-designed with Karen Twelves. It’s is not playtested, it is probably not good, but it is fun to read.”
Let’s get some playtesting done then, ladies and gents.
You can find the Mate here, under the Young Offenders heading: seannittner.com – Blades in the Dark
