  1. hernan juarez, I used the white post it flags, which you can probably find at your local office or paper supply store. They have an adhesive that allows them to be removed/re-positioned which is a huge plus since you don’t have to worry about it being permanent or ruining the pages if you want to take them off. I always test that they can be removed safely before I mark the entire book. I don’t know what the long term effect might be on the paper/ink (I’ve only been doing it for a few years), but I havn’t had any issues yet.

Here are the thin white ones I used for Blades:

I’ve also used the slightly more durable bookmarks on previous books and liked the look and feel, but it makes them a little more awkward for travel since the thicker bookmarks tend to get snagged on things in my backpack. Here’s the more durable kind (they come in a variety of colors if you shop around):

I wish I could provide a good tutorial on how to make sure the spacing is correct, but I kind of just eyeball it and after the first row is complete I use that as a guideline for the following rows as I go. That’s the nice thing about being able to re-position them, it’s pretty forgiving. Once I’ve done the first row I’ll readjust them to make sure they are spaced evenly. I’m sure you could measure the page and use a ruler or something as a guide for the spacing, but I’m not super picky about it. I use pencil to draw on them since I’ve had issues before of ink smudging on the flag/bookmark surface. The pencil also allows me to erase and correct mistakes as I go.

Hopefully that helps, but if you have more questions let me know! 🙂

NOTE: I also don’t know if I would recommend using quite as many bookmarks as I did here. I used to just bookmark the sections I thought were most important or found I used the most frequently. It allows more space between the bookmarks to make them easier to see. Some people might feel like they get in the way, so maybe just try it with a few and see how you like it.
