Hi Gang

Hi Gang

Hi Gang

Just after a bit of advice, and yes it’s a strange one. We have been playing Blades for a few months now, and we getting close to starting our second chapter. Now this will entail work outside of Duskwall, and will be work where the PC’s are more in…control? of there destinies. To emphasise this and for a change of pace, I’ll be converting the PC’s to Fate Core (and then back again when they return to Duskwall)

I’ve read a lot of Fate but have only played it once for a few weeks in a Mindjammer campaign, soooo any help, advice or suggestions would be muchly appreciated 🙂

  1. That’s actually kind of awesome. First off, I’d maybe just straight use their action dots as their Fate skill ratings. 2 dots in Skirmish becomes Skirmish +2 perhaps?

Since Fate is opposed rolls, you could do a shorthand conversion and use the Quality/Tier of opponents as their skill level. That’s probably good enough of a starting point, and you can flavor to taste.

I wouldn’t enforce any sort of structure wrt aspects. You’ve been playing a few months, so the scoundrels should have an idea what’s important to them and who they are.

Stunts might be tricky, depending on the Blades ability you’re trying to convert. Also, Blades tend to have more special abilities than Fate PCs have stunts. Convert the iconic ones, the ones your PCs rely on.

Cross-post this with the Fate G+ community if you haven’t.

Also maybe summoning Rob Donoghue bc there’s a chance this is up his alley and semi-relevant to recent tweets I’ve seen from him.

  2. Opposite direction here: I’ve read BitD (and are eager to play) and played Fate a lot.

First of: I think it’s a great idea!

My piece of advice: Do not convert, but create so that it “feels” the same. Aspect can be done from the playbooks, skills and stunts, too.

The crew should be described as an extra with aspects and perhaps stunts, that can be invoked by each member.

Do not waste time to get it right, but start playing when you are not done and add while playing.

In changing back, do the same: Decide in the group what XPs, Advancements, Realtions etc. are reasonable and then carry on.

And don’t forget: Please tell us how it worked.

  3. Klaus Erkens Thanks Klaus. I think the way I worded my first post was a bit misleading. When i say ‘convert’ the characters I was meaning the feel of the character and not the minutiae. I very much like the idea of describing the Crew as an extra.

  4. Adam Schwaninger Thanks for that Adam. At the moment I want the Fate character to reflect the ‘feel’of the BitD Character so I’m not bothered about transferring exact skills etc across. Stunts I think will work as they will start with 3 + 1 for there first major milestone which they’ve just had as chapter 1 of the campaign ends.
