I’ve been finding the Nitter oneshots so helpful I figured I’d try and make one or two myself! My first attempt Spirit Warden Escape can be found in the drive below. I’ll be running it tomorrow for my players so let me know what you think guys.

The basic principle is that the crew is backed with high tier weapons (tier 3) and they break out of ghost-jail. Fun times all round.

  1. I did that once for my group of old-school-players. I got only puzzled looks from them. They though that I forgot to prepare the score and it took some convincing that THEY have to ansers the questions ๐Ÿ™‚

Hey, Sean Nittner “Nittner-style” sounds cool, eh? ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Very cool Benjamin herder! I have a suggestion about the follow up questions. Specifically that you make sure there are two discreet questions for each answer so you can appoint one person to each of them.

    Suggest changing:

How has Scurlock ensured your cooperation with his dark desire, and what ritual has he granted you to aid in your escape?

    to:

How has Scurlock ensured your cooperation with his dark desire? What ritual has he granted you to aid in your escape?

    And:

What advantage does the thing give you and what catastrophic event would occur if something in its activation went awry?

    to:

What advantage does this device provide? What catastrophic event would occur if something in its activation went awry?

  3. Benjamin herder as I was working on it I found I wanted to see a few more specific things, so I took a few liberties.

Also, I felt like the Hull and the Roving Experiment were too similar, so I added a Spirit Warden as a 4th option. If you like that, I’d recommend removing either the hull or the experiment (or combining them). Anywho, here’s the first draft: dropbox.com – The Score – Spirit Warden Escape.pdf

Let me know what changes you’d like made and I’ll be happy to do it.

Also, would you be okay with me listing this on my site (I’d credit you of course for the creation)?

  4. The Demon Setarra!? I’m sure the crew will be able to handle that just fine.

Yeah i think replacing the Hull complication with a Spirit Warden makes the most sense, if the group really wants to take on a construct it wouldn’t be a terrible stretch for a Hull to be assisting the Warden or for one of the experiments to be a hull with a rapid ghost inside of it (just as an example)

I will say I had intended the operation to be run in the Master Warden’s Estate somewhere, not at Bellweather Crematorium so it explicitly mentions the place about halfway through the second paragraph.

After thinking a bit the Crematorium is probably the better choice for most groups, Whitecrown is a pretty intense setting for a oneshot.

Also yes! i would be thrilled if you would put it up so that others can see it and try it out for themselves. I’m glad you like what I’ve written up.

  5. Cool. I’ll adjust accordingly and send an update tomorrow. If you do like Bellweather, (sorry I missed before that it was somewhere else) it might be fun to have a small chart of “what are the weird features of Bellweather” since I think that place is messed up!

  6. Sean Nittner My crew has never ventured inside Bellweather unfortunately (except that one time my Spider met with a corpse thief to rifle through some dead guy’s pockets) though I hear you may have?

I do have to wonder what goes on to keep the Deathseeker Crows under the Spirit Wardens rituals. Probably bad news.

  7. I was a player in Benjamin herder’s first run at this one shot and had a blast. Thanks for the help Sean Nittner! This was a concept Ben and I came up with at the table a few months ago and it’s awesome to see it dressed up nicely after Ben put in the work to make it

  8. The chart looks great and i think it all looks perfect, everything i could have hoped for. I think just my name there looks fine.

Glad you enjoyed it Felix Shannon, with the secrets of the Lady Setarra in Baz’s hands and the Lord Scurlock totally miffed at the crew I’m sure things will settle down nicely afterwards.

Thanks a bunch for taking the time to edit this up Sean Nittner. If you ever need someone to take a second look at that Grifter’s playbook just let me know ๐Ÿ˜›

  9. Totally my pleasure Benjamin herder, glad we got to make another awesome one shot!

Grifters is Rob Wieland’s stretch goal though. I’m excited to see what he does with it!
