Rotating GMs?
One of our players in our online Dresden Files game couldn’t show up this week, so the rest of us started to put together a Blades in the Dark crew. It occurred to us that the low-prep nature of the game plus the “crew is more important than the individual PC” philosophy of the game might make Blades in the Dark perfect for rotating GM campaign.
Has anyone here had any experience with rotating GMs in their Blades games? Any advice you can give or pitfalls you can warn me about?
Our group have had 3 different GM’s. We started ot just wanting to playtest the game and everyone really liked it. When I was considering quitting a friend said he could take over. Tha øast we played was with a third GM wich took us through the preparing and exectuion of our mission for the demonic entanglement. Worked great.
I’ve only played Blades a few times (trying to find a group online so I can get my fix!), but I rotated a few sessions with my regular GM.
It worked pretty well – the system allows for characters to drop in and out of sessions, so I was able to bring in my Slide while his Cutter “faded into the background”/acted as a resource for Gathering Info.
I’d say the one potential “pitfall” would be people not being on the same page about what the crew is doing/what they’ve already done, but between the crew sheet, the faction sheet, and the heist sheets, that should be easily avoided.
Thanks for the input, guys.
So what kind of effect does multiple GMs have on the theme and world-building and elements of the game? Does it enhance things, or is it too many cooks?
I’ve been the GM for most of the games in the group I am apart of, and another player has GMed once and wants to do more. I feel that since we are all creating the setting together, it is a good thing.
